Creative Writing Techniques - Capture the Moment
One of the creative writing techniques is to capture the moment in time. This basically means that you observe and absorb all that is around you at that moment and write about that moment. It could be at any time and any where. You could be sitting on a bus and you can capture that moment. There would be a lot of things happening around you like children playing, old folks talking, a smooth traffic, or it could even be that you are the only passenger in an otherwise empty bus.
This is a unique technique among the creative writing techniques because that moment that you are in, is unique only to you. There would not be another exactly same scene anywhere else in the world. Of course there are plenty of bus routes and bus services in around the world. But, none would be exactly same with the same type of passengers, same weather, same time, same driver, same seats, same bus, same colour, same feeling and much more.
A lot of times, when we do creative writing, we focus and think too deeply into the topic and that drains our energy. The writing activity becomes more like a chore and hard work rather than an enjoyable one. Capture the moment is one of the creative writing techniques that let's you express your natural thoughts, observations and feelings at that particular moment without heavy duty thinking. The end result is a vivid description of that moment that would connect with your readers.
This creative writing exercise is one of the creative writing techniques that is naturalistic. Due to that inherent feature, it triggers a chain of natural thoughts and brings out the creative writer in us. It promotes creativity in an enjoyable manner rather than being a drain on our creative thinking. It is a technique that helps to break writer's block and gets us on the path to creative writing.
Try this activity which is another one of my favorite creative writing techniques and let us know how it went.
